Featured Artist: Teil Duncan
After furnishing our previous home, it became very apparent to me that I had a lack of art for my walls. Over the years, I've collected a mish-mash of pieces from places like Target and Homegoods, but I often found the art felt really generic to me. I'd buy it because it worked with whatever else was going on but never because it was really speaking to me. Nowadays it's become so much easier to find real talent via the interwebs - people creating art as a side gig, but who have real - perhaps undiscovered talent that is ours for the taking.
Since then, I have purchased numerous pieces of art - some that I've commissioned specifically for our home, some prints that were too pretty to pass up and others that I just stumbled across and couldn't live without. I'm looking forward to sharing more about these gifted artisans and how attainable original art can be these days.
With all that said, today I am featuring an artist whose talent has been recognized worldwide. Her originals don't come cheap and are highly coveted with new releases being limited. Even though, owning an original piece of hers would be a bucket list item of mine. In the meantime, I have two of her prints in my home that I absolutely love and that literally bring joy to my life by being able to see them everyday.
Behold the talent that is Teil Duncan:
The first thing that I'm drawn to by her work is the colors. The beach scenes are my favorite with their playful patterns and saturated hues but her figure studies are a close second. I am a lover of abstract art and how art can feel imperfect and undone in the most perfect way. I like not having to overthink it but instead let it take me somewhere. Her art transports me (often out of a frigid Minnesota winter day) and allows me to get lost in the incredible depth she creates. I love the vibrancy of her pieces, but with a softness that mimics the movement of the sea she paints. Her pieces are painted on a birchwood panel and come ready to hang. Most of her new releases as of late have been larger pieces - 30 x 40 and some even larger - so they can make a huge impact in a space.
How can you go about owning a piece by Teil Duncan? There are a few ways - visit her website and subscribe to her newsletter, also - follow her on Instagram. She is great about communicating upcoming releases. She typically releases around 12-15 or so new paintings at a time and will alert her followers the time the pieces will become available on her site. They go fast...like basically evaporate - so be sitting at your computer with your credit card ready. With each new release, she often releases a new set of prints on her site. This is where I've purchased all mine and they tend to run around $100 for a 12 x 18.
I hope exploring her work brings as much joy to you as it does to me.
